The global body for tenpin bowling yesterday launched a Quality Programme for bowling facilities and equipment providers.

World bowling

World Bowling has set out to provide an internationally-recognised quality assurance programme that will provide consistent and dependable industry standards for the performance, construction and durability of installations world-wide. It will ensure the appropriate quality for the intended level of play and as a result will help inspire more people to take part in bowling, promote athlete welfare and protect the investment of those funding bowling centres.

The new programme includes manufacturers, location builders and preferred suppliers so that investors in bowling can now specify that they require a World Bowling approved product and installation by a recognised specialist contractor.

There are 114 member federations and five confederations in membership of World Bowling.

At its 2018 Congress in Las Vegas, the Quality Programme was launched as part of a strategy to help make bowling a truly global sport accessible to everyone. The programme will encourage professionalism; it is intended and is in line with the International Olympic Committee’s Agenda 2020 recommendations to improve sustainability within organisations and operations.

Speaking of the programme, World Bowling president HRH Sheikh Talal Mohammed Al-Sabah said: “We believe that the long-term success of our sport lies in the quality of bowling facilities around the world. As part of our new World Bowling strategy, we want to create international standards ensuring the sustainability, affordability and accessibility of bowling facilities worldwide. As a result, we have launched the World Bowling Quality Programme for bowling facilities and equipment, developed with the best interest of bowlers at its heart. This programme will have a significant impact on the next generation of our athletes, the future of our sport, who will be able to learn and develop their skills in safe and reliable environments.”

The programme will be officially launched in Dubai in November.
