A Spanish court has partially invalidated an urban master plan that would see a large tract of land in Catalonia given over to a tourism project that would include amusements and attractions.

BCN World

The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia has ruled that the plan, for the Costa Dorada, near Tarragona, was too close to a chemicals plant, giving rise to fears of accidents.

BCN World is set to provide a huge leisure area, containing hotels, gaming areas, shops and entertainment locations. Sector 1 of the plan has been voided by the court following a number of studies.

The original plan was approved in 2015 to cover one million square metres and two yeas later, part of the project was awarded to Hard Rock in return for €7m. The location is adjoining the Port Aventura theme parks complex and the town of Salou.
