Bill Glasgow, Snr, an icon of the US amusement industry for 65 years, died at his home in the US state of Illinois on October 23.

Those veterans in the industry who visited US coin machine shows as far back as the 1970s will remember Glasgow, who organised most of them under his William T Glasgow show management company.

He notably organised the AMOA trade shows on behalf of the association and then added the spring show for the manufacturers’ association, the AAMA from 1985. They merged their shows in 2010 and Glasgow was the focal point for that management too.

His first involvement in organising trade shows was at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, Chicago, in the 1960s, subsequently joining Hilton until 1975 when he branched out to run an electronic industries exhibition. He started his own business in 1984.

He retired in 2012 but his company continues to be run by his two sons, Bill and Brian. He leaves a wife, Loretta, his sons and one daughter, Karen.
