The proposed liberalisation of the Dutch gaming market poses a number of questions for the industry, but it ought to be viewed as a positive step forward, said Eric Olders, CEO of arcade operator JVH gaming and entertainment group.

“There are many changes ahead and we generally believe this to be an exciting and promising era,” he told InterGame. The dissolution of the Holland Casino monopoly, he explained, is in the market’s best interests.
“The sale and privatisation of Holland Casino is a good thing for the industry overall,” he said. “Obviously we believe a casino business should not be government owned and should not be kept as a monopoly. In the long run, that is damaging for innovation and for the performance and value of the business. Although we do not like it every day, we need competition to truly be successful.”
There needs to be a “big change” in the structure of the industry to ensure that conditions are the same across the board, he continued. “There is much to be gained for our business if this happens.”
