A ‘Walk in Defence of our Bread’ demonstration is being held in Valencia, Spain, tomorrow by the Hospitality SOS campaign against the provincial government’s plans to take control of AWP licensing in local bars.

The campaigners insist that if the proposal comes into law then between 25 per cent and 30 per cent of bars in the region will not reopen after the pandemic shutdown is over.

The campaign is being led by local Valencian machine supplier and operator, Fidel Molina of Comatel who is also a local hotelier. With his fellow campaigners Molina has encouraged all those who are going to have their livelihoods impacted by the proposals to join him in the demonstration. Bar and restaurant owners, their staff and other local operators and their staff are likely to be taking part.

The demonstration will take place at the same time the new regulation is debated in the Valencian parliament. Molina and his fellow campaigners have led a vigorous battle against the proposal which they maintain will not only mean the closure of many hostelries, but will bring about unemployment and substantially reduce the taxes that flow from the machines to the local authority.
