Members of UK trade association Bacta have been asked to be aware of an emerging issue regarding counterfeit £2 coins.

The association stated: "Since the start of the year we have been made aware of the use of counterfeit £2 coins. These are unusual as they are blanks.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether these are official blanks or good forgeries. Either way the quality is sufficient for machines to accept them.
"So far, the blanks have been used in high volume at various locations in the Essex area, including pubs and motorway services. If you find any of these coins during your machine collections, please take the following action. "Retain the coins, check any CCTV covering the machine(s) for any suspicious activity and inform Bacta at [email protected] as we are collating all incidents for the National Crime Agency. "In due course we will be circulating details of what we need you to do with the coins."
