The Belgian manufacturer of interactive rides Alterface exhibited its latest ride, Popcorn Revenge, at IAAPA Expo Asia in Macao, China, earlier this month.

Alterface pops to IAAPA Asia

A mock-up of the attraction was demonstrated on the company’s booth. The innovative erratic ride facilitates a higher participant throughput on a smaller footprint than a traditional, linear one. They can enjoy different scenes each go, with various gameplay levels and individual scoring.

The first location where the ride was installed, Belgium’s Walibi Park, has opened a shop in the attraction with a range of merchandise, based on the ride, such is the IP’s charm.

Benoit Cornet, CEO and founder of Alterface, said: "Contrary to the usual approach of a company selling limited rights to use a portion of its IP, Alterface has introduced a more dynamic and accessible solution. The Popcorn Revenge IP includes access to a variety of merchandising products. Profits are shared on those products and a significant portion of those profits is reinvested in the IP itself, which eventually benefits the park. So, this is not a ‘static’ IP the park gets access to, but a constantly evolving asset, both in media and in merchandising, leading to more brand appeal and obviously profit on both sides."

The show drew over 11,400 industry professionals from 80 countries, a 25 per cent increase in buyers from last year’s expo in Hong Kong. With 429 companies showcasing new products across the largest trade show floor in the expo’s 21-year history.
