Dutch lawmakers are aiming to create a level playing field within the gaming industry by ensuring online gaming operators pay the same rate of tax as arcades and casinos.

The government had intended introducing a tax rate of 20 per cent for online gaming services once legalised, despite Holland Casino and the country’s extensive arcade sector being expected to pay 29 per cent, DutchNews.nl reports.

Now it seems coalition MPs are pushing for a single tax rate of 29 per cent, to be reduced to 25 per cent once online gaming has been legal for three years.

Online gaming could be legalised in the country as early as this summer.
