Escape rooms have become steadily more popular in recent years. To find out why, Ian Donegan spoke to Chris Lattner, operator of The Room in Berlin.

READERS in the UK may be familiar with the game show The Crystal Maze. For anyone who is not, the show involves a team of contestants taking on a range of challenges set within a labyrinth of the same name consisting of four zones. They must solve puzzles and other challenges within a certain amount of time in order to proceed.

While it first aired in 1990, it is only in the past three years that attractions known as escape rooms, which follow a similar format, have taken off.
