Gambling has always been a short step away for a video game. Free plays, even tickets, have been sometimes interpreted as going too close to the line, but in Las Vegas it is now being touted as a way for the future.

With many of today’s visitors to Las Vegas coming from the sub-40s age group, it is pointed out that they grew up with Gameboys to Xbox to the most modern version of the home video game. What could be more logical than attaching the latest games to gambling?

The idea is having some support. A Nevada legislative committee is to recommend that the state changes its law to permit the Gaming Commission to fix fresh ways to expand the gaming market.

This is one of the recommendations. The Gaming Commission would be able to approve rules permitting skill-based games on the casino floor with prizes. It would also permit casinos to give regular players a better chance to win.

To work, skill games would have to be tied in to a slot machine and the player with the most skill would win. Also the regular player would, after a long period, have odds changed from 75 per cent to perhaps 85 per cent (currently the state demands that the odds should be the same for all players).

The plans will be presented to the Nevada Legislature next year.
