Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s winning of the election in Japan should finally ensure the passage of the country’s long-awaited casino legislation.

Japan

Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party has long backed providing a fully-fledged resort casino option to Japan’s ubiquitous pachinko parlours.

Along with its New Komeito coalition partners, Abe’s LDP now controls both houses of the Diet, a parliamentary profile not seen since 2007 and which will last until at least 2016.

All of this makes the imposition of Abe’s economic reforms – including opening up the country to land-based casino gambling – a far more streamlined process.
