According to a survey carried out by the Washington Post in conjunction with a Massachusetts university, the majority of US citizens now favour the legalising of sports betting by 55 per cent to 33 per cent.

The breakdown shows that sports fans widen the voting margin to 57 per cent against 30 per cent.

Legalising sports betting across the entire country would generate $7.1bn to $15.8bn in revenues, says another report from Eilers and Krejcik Gaming. At the moment the company estimates that illegal sports betting accounts for between $50m to $60m a year by around 14 million Americans.
