Tribal casino expansion and the opening of some large-scale commercial casinos means the number of slot machines in North America will rise four per cent this year to 994,800, Todd Eilers of Eilers & Krejcik Gaming estimates.
The third quarter provided more evidence that the commercial casino slot installed base is stabilising, as it fell just 0.3 per cent from the prior quarter, Eilers said.
The number of slots on routes continues to grow thanks to Illinois. Slots on routes have grown 3.5 per cent this year to 104,500, including 3,200 added in Illinois, which now has 27,681 machines on routes.
Eilers expects the number of table games to grow 1.6 per cent this year after growing 1.5 per cent in the quarter to 31,400.
