President Trump told Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe he should strongly consider Las Vegas Sands for a Japanese casino licence, Propublica reported.
The Japanese side was taken aback by the exchange, which happened during a meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
Nikkei also reported Trump mentioned MGM during the conversations and that Abe then had an aid write down both company names.
LVS CEO Sheldon Adelson is a major Republican contributor. The New York Times recently reported his donations, around $55m this year, give him a “direct line to President Trump.”
