If the Florida legislature legalises mega casinos in Miami, US, Donald Trump will be among the competing players.

Donald Trump

Trump told the Miami Herald that Florida would be foolish not to allow Miami to develop casinos and that it is the only place in the US that Las Vegas is really concerned about.

Last year, Trump bought the Doral Golf Resort in Miami for $150m and is spending $250m to remake the property. He is now touting Doral as the best location for a casino, should they be legalised, given its proximity to the airport and major highways.

Trump has hired Tallahassee lobbyist Brian Ballard to represent him in the casino push. Ballard also represents Genting Hong Kong, which is angling for a casino in Miami.

The Florida legislature is currently reviewing the state's gaming industry in a two-part process being done by Spectrum Gaming.
