In the US, the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot Indians are partnering to build a casino in north central Connecticut.

Meanwhile, Enfield Square Mall wants to be the site of that casino and is offering a plan to Enfield City Council. The Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods owners have signed their agreement to jointly pursue a casino in the Interstate 91 corridor to compete with MGM Resorts’ resort now under construction in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Under the law, they have to find a location and sign an agreement with a local government at which point the state legislature would have to pass a law allowing an off-reservation casino. Enfield Square is the first candidate with its proposal for a 152,000sq.ft casino, 300-room luxury hotel and 1,200-space garage.

MGM has sued to prevent them, saying the Connecticut law allowing for an American Indian casino is unconstitutionally discriminatory.
