The Greek Gaming Commission has forced the temporary closure of Loutraki Casino for not complying with a court decision ordering the casino to immediately pay taxes of €1.8m.

The casino acknowledged its debt and promised to settle it by Thursday of last week. The commission said it would await confirmation of the payment to allow the casino to reopen.

But later the casino said that it was still trying to collect the amount required late on Thursday night. Loutraki Casino had disputed the imposition of the 13 per cent gross gaming revenues tax, but a court decision in July ruled against it.
