Donald Sweitzer is to retire from the chair at IGT Global Solutions Corp, it has been announced.

He will step down on December 31 after 20 years’ service in IGT’s government affairs and business development department. Marco Sala, IGT CEO, said: “Don’s experience in building and nurturing relationships with state and commercial partners all over the world and his insights into complex geopolitical situation have been important to the continued expansion of IGT.”

Before becoming chairman, Sweitzer was senior vice president of global business development and public affairs when he developed new business opportunities and supported the expansion of IGT products and services in existing jurisdictions.

Before joining the company in 1998 he was in a number of senior roles in federal and state politics in the US. He was political director of the Democratic National Committee during the first term of President Clinton and was an advisor to elected representatives including Senators Edward Kenny and Howard Metzenbaum. 

He also held roles on the boards of non-governmental  organisations including the current co-chair and past chairman of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems and current board member of the Providence Performing Arts Center. He is a member of the Lottery Industry Hall of Fame.
