Swedish regulator Spelinspektionen is increasing consumer protection with new gaming regulations

The object, it says, is to “ensure that those engaged in gaming operations in Sweden are licensed and close out the players who are not.”

A letter has gone to payment service providers calling their attention to the importance of refusing to pass bets or winnings to and from bookmakers without a Swedish licence when they are aimed at the Swedish gaming market.

“Games without a licence can have serious consequences for society, such as increased vulnerability to problem gamblers, the risk of money laundering, tax losses and unhealthy competition.”

Spelinspektionen insists that every game directed at the Swedish market should have a Swedish gaming licence and payment service providers dealing with players and operators who do not have a licence may be breaking the law.
