With a rash of match-fixing investigations going on in Sweden, the state-owned bookmaker Svenska Spel has reaffirmed its commitment to fair play.

CEO Patrik Hofbauer (pictured) has issued a statement in which he repeats that "if gambling safety is not guaranteed, we will refrain from offering games."

Hofbauer went on: “Our customers should be confident that the games we offer are decided by fair play. It is something that sport also requires from gaming companies.”

He notes that although the Swedish football season is only half way through, a number of matches are under investigation. The previous week the Premier Division match between Kalmar and Elfsborg was under investigation.

Svenska Spel, he said, has a number of different control systems and additionally it exchanges information with other gaming companies through the Global Lottery Monitoring System.

“When we discover betting anomalies that cannot be linked to natural causes, we stop the betting process immediately. We are determined that the cheats do not win.”

He noted that in the lower leagues where control does not exist directly, he felt that gambling is not appropriate.
