Anthony Leong Man Ion, the deputy director of Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, has said he would favour banning all smoking in casinos that fail to meet new air quality standards in their designated smoking areas.

However, he said the government could offer casinos with worse air quality maybe six months to improve conditions. The government also warned that it would reduce or totally ban smoking areas in a given property if operators did not comply with air quality standards.

Some casino workers groups have called for a full smoking ban, along with legislator and SJM executive director Angela Leong.
