Residents of the UK town of Slough are to be given the opportunity to decide whether the council’s ‘no casino’ policy should be overturned.

Slough Borough Council has launched a public consultation on its policy, which dates back to 2006 and was subsequently renewed in 2009.

The policy lapses after three years and so residents and businesses are being asked for their views on whether the policy should be continued to 2015 or be removed.

The council suggested that the creation of employment opportunities and the positive effect a casino would have on the local economy are factors in favour of permitting such gaming facilities.

“At present we have a ‘no casinos’ policy in Slough and we are happy with the status quo,” said Councillor Shafiq Chaudhry, commissioner for community and leisure. “However, we want the views of Slough residents to see whether they want to continue the current policy until 2015.”
