The Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore has granted the first licences to two junket operators.
The licences, which refer to the operators as ‘International Market Agents’, are being issued for a one-year duration. The first two licences have been awarded to Huang Yu Kiung and Low Chong Aun, both of whom are licensed to conduct junket activities at the Resorts World Sentosa integrated casino resort. Several applications are still being reviewed, the CRA said, adding that 12 other applicants had been rejected. “We have decided to use the term International Market Agents to more accurately describe what these agents do,” said Lau Peet Meng, chief executive of the CRA. “They will focus on bringing in foreign high rollers to our casinos and they will not target our locals. “CRA has put in place a tight regulatory regime for the IMAs and have every intent to exercise our powers to ensure the casino operators and IMAs comply fully with our regulatory requirements.”
