The Japanese city of Osaka will not get its casino resort until at least 2027, reports Inside Asia Gaming. It may even be as late as 2028, says the city’s mayor, Ichiro Matsui because of delays brought on by the pandemic.

The project, he says, is now running one-to-two years behind schedule. The Japanese Government had been pressing for the new integrated resort to be open at the start of the 2025 World Expo in Japan.

The delays are also attributed to the difficulty in meeting with the potential candidates to run the operation, MGM Resorts Japan and Orix.

The plan is to build the resort on an artificial island to be named Yumeshima, in Osaka Bay.
