With Hard Rock Bet now fully up and running in Florida, the Seminole have joined in the lawsuit to end the fight from pari-mutuel operators aimed at blocking its exclusive mobile betting operations.
The tribe filed an amicus brief with the Florida Supreme Court in support of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ motion to dismiss a challenge to expanded gambling in the Sunshine State brought by West Flagler Associates and Bonita-Fort Myers Corp.
The Seminole say neither a recent state constitutional amendment nor federal law disallow its expanded gaming which was approved under its gaming compact with the state of Florida in 2021.
West Flagler and Bonita-Myers contend DeSantis exceeded his authority and violated a state constitutional requirement that voters approve any expansion of gaming.
DeSantis said earlier this month the pari-mutuel operators waited too long to file their suit, undermining any suggestion of urgent harm suffered.
The Seminole Tribe re-launched its mobile sports betting app on November 7 and in-person craps, roulette, and sports betting at its casinos on December 7.
