UK-based operator Rank Group is planning to invest in building 10 new casinos over the next few years.

The company’s chief executive, Ian Burke, has reportedly given the green light to plans to build five new properties in Stockton-on-tees, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Scarborough within the next two years, subject to regulatory approval.

A further five properties, including another in Birmingham, are expected to be completed in the years to follow.

The group recently announced group revenue of £281.1m for the six months to June 30, up from £266m in the same period last year. The operator also reported an increase in adjusted profit before tax from £24.7m in the previous year to £25.1m in 2010.

Commenting on the results, Burke said: "I am encouraged by the group’s performance during the first half of 2010. All of our businesses have achieved growth in revenue as a result of increased numbers of customers and customer visits."
