An assembly of newspaper reporters and TV cameras were treated to a catalogue of disaster which faces the Polish casino industry if government proposals to implement a 10 per cent turnover tax is implemented from January 1.
The press conference was held yesterday at the Casinos Poland location in the Hyatt Hotel, Warsaw. The conference heard that the casino industry had funded an independent research project by the Polish Academy of Science, which showed that the outcome of the tax would be catastrophic for the country’s 27 casinos and 200-plus slots arcades.
The outcome of the projected research showed that a black market in gaming chips would be only one of illegal practices which would emerge from the proposals. The government is seeking funds to support a number of public projects, including football stadiums for the 2012 European championships.
A full report will appear in the November InterGaming.
