George Kuper's Playmeter Leisure Services, the machine operating company based in South Africa, has been taken over by a subsidiary of Grand Parade Investments. The Gauteng Gambling Board has now issued an approval notice of the acquisition.
Kuper, a long-standing operator, distributor and manufacturer of machines in South Africa, now plans to restrict his activities to machine manufacturing. Playmeter’s slots route licence has gone to the GPI subsidiary Thuo Gaming Gauteng, which already operates in the LPM (limited payout machine) market with over 2,000 pieces of equipment in operation.
During the past year, Gauteng’s LPM market has shown a 19 per cent increase in drop. The Playmeter deal cost GPI R25m. (€2.5m.) most of which was in shares.
