The Colombian gambling regulator has destroyed over 2,000 gaming products worth COP445m (£81,053) that were operating illegally across the country.

Coljuegos said the equipment prevented almost COP78.4m (£14,280) being transferred to Colombia’s health system.

Of the 2,042 items destroyed, 1,852 were seized in inspection operations carried out by Coljuegos since October 2023, with another 190 had been seized in 2022.

They included electronic slot machines, roulette wheels, chairs and bingo boards.

“We are hitting hard those who operate betting without paying health taxes,” said Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos.

Televisions, ticket machines, online betting modules, code readers and CPUs were also destroyed by Coljuegos.

The equipment was removed from areas such as Atlántico, Bolívar, Cesar, Magdalena, Antioquia, Huila and Tolima – “hotbeds of illegality in areas where there was previously no control,” said Hincapié.
