Casino operator Olympic Entertainment Group has filed a legal action over the decision to cancel a permit to operate two casinos in Riga, Latvia.

OEG takes to court

The city’s council decided to ban gambling in the historical centre and OEG’s Latvian subsidiary, Olympic Casino Latvia, was informed by the council to cancel a five-year permit to operate.

There was also the prospect that permits covering another five locations under OEG’s control would also be withdrawn, despite a stated lifespan that would take them through to autumn, 2022. The five would be among 42 planned casino closures in the old city.

OEG is applying to the courts to have the decision declared invalid under Latvian law. The company’s flagship location in Riga, Olympic Voodoo Casino, does not fall under the ban.
