Living Sky Casino in Swift Current, Canada, officially opened its doors over the weekend.
The casino, a result of a partnership between the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Association, the File Hill’s Qu’Appelle Tribal Coucnil, the Nikaneet First Nation and the province, has been a long time coming and there have been many delays over the last several years.
According to FHCQTC tribal chairman Edmund Bellegarde, the project has been at times “frustrating working our way through a regulatory process and some of the political hurdles that were put in front of the tribal council and SIGA.
“It just makes it that much sweeter that we have come to this day and we will be opening the facility and Saskatchewan’s newest casino.”
The 50,000sq.ft facility houses 225 slot machines, six live table games, a restaurant and a deli.
“We also have the sky centre, which will open mid-February," added Pat Cook SIGA’s vice president of corporate affairs. “It will hold up to 576 theatre-style seating for performances and then it will hold 200 banquet seats, which are retractable.”
Cook went on to explain that each casino has its unique theme and the Living Sky Casino is no exception with a circular gaming floor to reflect the First Nation drum. It also has stacked field-stone artwork that depicts the local wildlife.
