Nepal’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation is issuing another notice asking the country’s casino operators to renew their licences.

The ministry decided to issue the public notice after all the casinos operating in the country ignored a previous government call.

Though the renewal process was put on hold for almost a year, a cabinet meeting held a few months ago decided to renew the operating licences of the casinos. According to officials, casino operators must renew their licence by the end of the current fiscal year.

Mohan Krishna Sapkota, joint secretary at MCTCA, said the ministry was shortly issuing a notice asking the casinos to renew their operating licences. “If the casinos fail to comply, they may lose their operating licence,” added Sapkota.

Last month the ministry issued a notice instructing all the casinos to provide information about their operational and ownership status. However, none of the casinos provided this information.

Although the government has already scrapped the licence of Nepal Recreation Centre, which was running four casinos, all the casinos are still in operation, which the ministry says is illegal.
