Moscow's prosecutor office and police department have been involved in illegal gambling operations, the Russian Federal Security Service has revealed.

RIA Novosti reports that the FSB released a statement on Monday linking the city’s authorities with underground gaming.

"During a search, photographs and videotapes were seized as evidence of concrete ties between the heads and other staff of the Moscow Region’s prosecutor’s office with representatives of the underground gambling business," a statement from the FSB said.

The documents seized by the FSB are understood to include proof of ownership of land in the region, application forms and copies of passports of applicants seeking employment in illegal gambling.

According to the Security Service, the organisers of illegal gambling activities also paid for holidays abroad for the prosecutor’s office staff and members of the police. Such operations were located across 15 cities within the Moscow region and approximately 1,200 slot machines were seized during raids.
