Among the provisions are the legalisation of internet gaming for citizens of countries where i-gaming is legal, the permitting of sports betting and mobile gaming and the go-ahead for incentives for junkets.

In all, the legislation includes 16 of the 17 recommendations made by the nation’s casinos. The industry says the legislation could lead to a 10 per cent increase in hotel occupancy.

The Bahamas’ leading casino resort, Atlantis, is getting ready for the legislation to pass, having already signed an agreement with Cantor Gaming to operate a sports book and mobile betting.

The Bahamas is about to experience a big boost in casino capacity when the $2.6bn Baha Mar opens.
