The organisers of an attempt to put proposals for a casino near Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks have insisted via a lawsuit that the campaign has enough votes.

As reported by the Missouri Independent, the Osage River Gaming & Convention Committee says it is aware of over 2,500 valid signatures that were rejected and should have been added to the campaign’s support in the 2nd Congressional District.
Last week, the Missouri secretary of state’s office said that while the campaign had enough support in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th districts, it was 2,031 signatures short in the 2nd district.
“Verifying every signature on multiple initiative petitions this summer has been a very long process for election officials and we realise mistakes happen,” the Osage River Gaming & Convention Committee said.
“However, [Osage River Gaming & Convention] has always been confident their initiative petition contained a sufficient number of valid signatures from legal voters to qualify for placement on the November 5 general election ballot and are now asking the court to do so.”
The proposal would, if it featured on the ballot and was voted for in November, would amend the Missouri Constitution and allow a casino to be built along the Osage River between Bagnell Dam and the confluence with the Missouri River.
