A total of 2.41m people visited Macau in September, up 0.4 per cent year-on-year, according to official statistics.

The number of same-day visitors was steady at 1.24m, 51.4 per cent of the total, while overnight visitors increased slightly by 0.8 per cent, to 1.17m.

Visitors to Macau from the mainland of China – mainly from Guangdong, Fujian and Hunan provinces - fell by 1.4 per cent year-on-year, to 1.57m.

There were 544,000 visitors from Hong Kong (up 6.8 per cent, year on year), 84,000 from Taiwan (up 5.6 per cent) and 32,000 from Japan (up 16.6 per cent). The numbers of visitors from South Korea dropped by 22.6 per cent compared with September 2014, to 36,000.
