Macau's gambling revenues fell for the fifth consecutive month in April, while visitors to the enclave also declined significantly.

Casino revenues stood at $1bn in April, down nine per cent from the figure recorded a year earlier and 13 per cent down on the previous month.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service showed that the total number of visitors to Macau decreased by 3.5 per cent to 1,867,204 in April, compared with the corresponding month last year.

Visitors from mainland China accounted for 48.1 per cent of the total, a year-on-year decrease of 13.5 per cent, while visitors from Taiwan and Malaysia dropped by 6.6 per cent and 24.1 per cent respectively. Visitors from Hong Kong, meanwhile, increased by 16.4 per cent, and those from Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore also increased by 5.6 per cent, 4.5 per cent and 23.3 per cent respectively.
