MGM Resorts has obtained approval to build a casino in the Cotai area of Macau.

Like many other recently proposed Macau resorts, the property will be heavily weighted towards non-gaming facilities in line with the government’s desire to diversify beyond gambling. Eighty-five per cent of its square footage will be non-gaming.

The property will have 500 gaming tables, 2,500 slot machines and 1,600 hotel rooms. MGM previously said that construction would begin after getting the final go-ahead from the government and would take three years to complete.
