Lotteries in Colombia have generated 25 per cent more revenue for the country’s health ministry so far this year than across the same period last year.

Colombia’s gambling regulator, Coljuegos, revealed that the 15 legal lotteries have transferred around COP143.98bn (£26.9m) to the health service this year, up by COP28.9bn (£5.4m) on the same period last year.

Lotteries have shown the greatest growth of any gaming vertical in Colombia, Coljuegos added, ahead of fixed-odds betting and Scratch&Listo.

“If we take into account all territorial games, we are reaching COP346.5m (£64.8m) in transfers for health care in the departments and municipalities,” said Marco Emilio Hincapié, the regulator’s president.

“We believe that, in the remainder of the year, we will be able to surpass the goal of COP470bn (£87.9m) in resources transferred by the territorial games,” said Hincapié.

He added: “We hope that with projects such as the regulation of the second extraordinary draw, the capitalisation of profits and agreements for legality, we can continue to strengthen our 15 lotteries.”
