Britain’s House of Lords is demanding a ban on gambling companies advertising on football kit.

UK

Around 150 members of the House have declared that the banning of advertising would only have a limited financial impact on clubs. It is estimated teams in the English Football League draw about £26m in fees annually from gambling companies.

A cross-party group, named Peers for Gambling Reform (PGR) wants to ban advertising logos on football shirts and other direct sponsorship and it would only cost the football clubs 2.5 per cent in lost revenues. And it would have no impact on clubs in the higher Premier League,.

They also propose a limit on stakes in gambling, limits on play speed and a mandatory levy in aid of gambling addiction charities.
