A judge hearing a lawsuit brought by the US city of Boston, which challenges the award of an environmental licence to Wynn Resorts for a casino in Everett, Massachusetts, has said she may dismiss the case, reports the Boston Globe.

Wynn's Everett proposals

Following a two-and-a-half hour hearing in Boston on Tuesday, superior court judge Janet Sanders made remarks suggesting she was considering dismissing the lawsuit, saying she was not sure a judge “should wade into such a matter.”

The decision would represent a key moment in the ongoing battle between Steve Wynn and Boston mayor Martin J Walsh, who still hopes to block the proposed $1.7bn casino development.

The two men have also clashed on a personal level, leading to a warning from Wynn that he might sue the mayor for defamation of character.
