The Dutch gambling regulator is to step up compliance checks on the alleged illegal installation of gambling machines in retail premises.

The regulator, Kansspelautoriteit, said it “regularly receives reports about operators who do not comply with the regulations of their operating licence for slot machines.”

It reiterated that to install gaming machines at catering establishments or gaming halls in the Netherlands, two permits are required – an operating licence and a presence permit for the establishment where the machines will be installed.

“The KSA permit states that gaming machines may only be operated in establishments for which a municipal presence permit has been issued,” it said. “If a gaming machine is installed without a permit from the municipality, it is a violation.

“If a violation is actually found, the KSA requires operators to terminate it within two weeks.”
