Politicians in Indonesia are lobbying for the development of the south-east Asian county's first casino.

It has been estimated that the casino, which would most likely be developed on an island close to wealthy Singapore, could raise the island’s annual income tenfold to US$132m.

However, previous plans to build casinos in the country have been scuppered due to vocal opposition from Islamic activists.

More than 90 per cent of those living in Indonesia are Muslim.
