In Russia the police have closed 36 illegal casinos in the Moscow area, seizing almost 500 gambling machines in the process.

The police found several dozen addresses where gambling clubs operated under the guise of betting houses, restaurants and internet cafes and also apartments where illegal poker and other games were organised.

Officials from the Interior Ministry's Main Economic Security Department carried out a set of operations eliminating illegal gambling clubs in Moscow and in the cities of Pushkino, Shchyolkovo, Korolyov, Podolsk, Khimki, Balashikha, Reutov, Mozhaisk, Noginsk and Ivanteyevka.

They police seized over 440 gambling machines, seven poker tables, 26 gambling machines accepting bills and over US$32,891. The criminals' revenues are estimated at over $3.2m. In addition, operatives closed a casino located in an old mansion in central Moscow.
