HeadsUp Entertainment International has signed a letter of intent to acquire all outstanding shares in the World Poker Showdown as part of its efforts to expand its business.
HeadsUp has been consolidating its media and tournament infrastructure in Canada over the last five years and now plans to expand internationally. With the launch of the Canadian Poker Tour’s Players Membership Card, the upcoming launch of the company’s online poker television network and the expansion of its poker tourism and destination event business unit, the acquisition of WPS means it is well placed to target the international market.
The WPS has developed relationships with land-based casinos over the past seven years and has hosted more than 300 poker events. It currently boasts a player base of over 20,000 members, enabling HeadsUp to build on existing relations with is pre-paid affinity card product and other merchandise.
