In Australia the Queensland government has given the green light for a second casino to be built on the Gold Coast.

A global tender for international hotel and casino developers is set to be launched soon. According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Mayor Tom Tate said he had received a letter from State Development Minister Anthony Lynham confirming government support for a second casino.

It is not known who will win the tender, but it is understood that ASF Consortium, the company which was forced to let go of its $3bn proposal to build a casino at the Spit in August, is still in “ongoing” talks with the government to develop the second casino.

Reports also suggest that an Aquis-owned site on Surfers Paradise Boulevard is emerging as the most likely location for the development. Aquis, however, was “keeping its cards close to the chest.”

“Aquis Australia, together with its partners, is considering a range of different options for the site. The site is a strategic holding that would suit a range of different uses,” a spokesman said.
