A pilot scheme has been started in Germany by Scientific Games (SG) for lottery self-service instant ticket vending machines with its PlayCentral HD.
The Saxony Sachsenlotto is using the PlayCentral terminals at a number of locaitons, including shopping malls, retail outlets and the lottery’s own store.
The machines will accept debit cards to sell Sachsenlotto scratch card games that have recently become the fastest-growing lottery games in Germany. Currently no other state offers self-service vending for instant tickets.
Dr Siegfried Bohring, deputy managing director of the lottery, said: “We are meeting increased consumer demand for our scratch cards, aligning with international trends for player self-service solutions. This may lead to other German lotteries modernising their retail plans.”
The machines have age verification to meet responsible gaming requirements.
“Self-service technology is modernising the lottery retail network in the US and elsewhere and SG has led innovation in this area,” said Matthias Müller, vice president sales and marketing for international lottery systems at SG.
The supplier has more than 12,000 lottery self-service machines in the international market including several PlayCentral models customised for size and functionality and featuring a player check-out experience similar to shopping online.
