New figures from Great Britain’s Gambling Commission (GBGC) show a marked rise in gross gambling yield (GGR) from online across the country.

GBGC shared data sourced from operators to reflect the period between March 2020 and March 2025, inclusive, and covers online and in-person gambling covering Licensed Betting Operators (LBOs) found on Britain’s high streets.

It stressed that comparison should not be made with the industry statistics dataset, as this dataset may include free bets and bonuses and does not include data from all operators.

Online total GGY in the quarter ending March 31, 2025, was £1.45bn, an increase of seven per cent year-on-year. The overall number of total bets and/or spins increased five per cent year-on-year to 25.2bn, whilst the average monthly active accounts in the quarter increased two per cent, to 13.5m.

The number of online slots sessions lasting longer than an hour increased by five per cent year-on-year to 10.1m. The average session length stayed consistent at 17 minutes. Approximately six per cent of all sessions lasted more than one hour, the same as the previous year.

Meanwhile, LBO GGY decreased by three per cent to £554 million in the quarter, compared to the same quarter last year. The number of total bets and spins decreased by five per cent to 3.1bn.

Meanwhile, GBGC also announced an extension to its gambling machine consultation date. This, GBGC explained on social media, follows “an industry request to allow for extra time to gather data and consumer research which will inform their response.”
