The casino, which has been put out to tender by the local government, is to be located on the grounds of Bendinat Catles in Calvia and will represent an investment of approximately €10m.

“We are planning a first-class resort with casino and luxury hotel, as well as an extensive event programme at these extensive parklands with its castle in its centre,” said Rolf Falke, spokesman for Gauselmann subsidiary Merkur International. “This will be a centre of appeal near and far.”

The application was submitted by the company on April 29.

“We are sure that we will convince the licensor of our plans for sophisticated quality tourism. Furthermore, if granted the licence, then approximately 200 new jobs will be created,” said Falke.
