In a campaign to get better understanding of gaming among US policymakers, Bill Miller, president and CEO of the American Gaming Association, has written to every Congressman.

Miller notes that the new Congress contains 20 "freshman" members, so the AGA has to "engage and educate them aggressively" to develop a regionally and politically diverse group of future industry champions.

“The industry continues to grow and acceptance of gaming as a form of mainstream entertainment has never been higher,” Miller tells his members in a circular message. He said that the AGA had to ensure that policymakers at all levels of government understand the industry’s positive economic impact and commitment to responsibility.

His letter to Congress provided a brief overview of the gaming industry and outlined the policy priorities that the AGA hoped to work on with members of Congress from both parties. The AGA, he said, sought to grow legal sports betting by directing federal attention to illegal sport betting operators that put consumers and the integrity of sports at risk. At the same time it would permit state and sovereign tribal nations to build on their proven record of successfully regulating gaming without federal involvement.

The letter also reviewed the current anti-money laundering framework, supported a corporate tax policy that encouraged industry investment and implemented smart immigration and travel policies to meet the needs of the industry’s workforce and customer base.
